Finding a smoke alarm solution for the deaf and hard of hearing can be difficult. We all know smoke alarms save lives. Queensland has introduced new Smoke Alarm Legislation starting in January 2022. This means all properties will be required to have a photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarm in every bedroom, living area and level of the home.
Usually smoke alarms work by sounding an alarm to alert people to a fire. However the deaf or hard of hearing cannot depend on the sound to alert them. Fortunately our friends at BROOKS have developed a great smoke alarm solution for the deaf and hard of hearing. We have installed several of these solutions at clients houses recently
What We Did
Rob has a daughter who lives with him and is deaf. He wanted a smoke alarm solution to suit the whole family including his daughter who is deaf. We were able to install Brooks hardwired photoelectric alarms in each bedroom and living area of his home. In his daughter’s room we installed the Brooks Smoke Alarm Solution designed for the Deaf or Hard of Hearing. In total we installed 7 photoelectric, interconnected smoke alarms.
How It works
A vibrating alarm is placed under the pillow as well as a high intensity strobe light on the ceiling. In the case of a fire the usual audible warning will sound as well as the vibration and strobe alarms. This will alert the whole family to the danger.
The Results
After the installation of the Smoke Alarm Solution for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Rob was very satisfied with the result. He felt very reassured that the safety of his whole family, including that of his daughter was looked after.
